Large explosion flattens munitions facility in northern Greece

Three people are reportedly missing

A powerful explosion occurred on Monday morning in a munitions factory in the area of ​​Itea, Grevena.

The blast reportedly leveled much of its facilities.

11 firefighters with four vehicles have rushed to the scene, while a search is underway to determine whether there are any people trapped under the rubble.

According to initial reports, as made public by ERT Kozani, three people – probably guards of the plant – are missing.

The factory belongs to the company ELTEK which was founded in 2010 and employs more than 30 people.

The facilities are spread over a privately owned area of ​​100 acres with 14 industrial facilities, storage facilities with a total capacity of 700 tons of raw materials, and 200 tons of explosives.

The explosion was felt even in the city of Grevena, which is about 30 kilometers away.

The Fire Brigade and the Police have cordoned off the area to the public, while the Regional Governor of Western Macedonia, the Mayor of Grevena, and other representatives of the local government are rushing to the spot and were informed about the incident that has upset the area.
