Large fire burning in Attica factory (photos-videos)

There are no people in the plant

Newsroom August 15 10:50

A fire broke out shortly before 7 am on Saturday morning in at a factory in the area Metamorfosi, Athens on Sorou Street, on the side road of the Athens-Lamia national road. Both lanes of the the Athens – Lamia national road has been closed off at the height of Tatoiou Street in Metamorfosi, to the height of Lykovrysi, while according to the Traffic Police, it is not expected to be open to traffic until noon.

According to the information, there are no people trapped in the factory, however this will be confirmed with certainty when the forces manage to get inside.

Fire Department reports says the factory is a place with recyclable materials and plastics. The fire has spread throughout the facility, while due to the burning plastics thick black smoke is billowing above the Attica sky.

The fire brigade is currently focusing on the periphery of the site, as they have not yet been able to enter the interior of the plant as immense heat has formed due to the burning material, making it hard to put the blaze under control.

The Fire brigade is trying to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby smaller factories and residential areas.
