Lavrov: Warns Kiev not to use force against pro-Russian protesters

He stated that the use of force against protesters by the Ukrainian authorities undermines the prospects for cooperation in solving the Ukrainian crisis

Russia favors a deep, constitutional reform in Ukraine which will ensure the equal participation of all forces and regions, as the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov has stated on Monday, according to the transmission of Interfax agency.

Lavrov said that a united Ukraine that is friendly towards Russia, is inline with Russian interests.
However, as Lavrov added, this can only be achieved with deep constitutional reform.

Regarding the statements of the active Ukrainian President, who said that Kiev ‘s leadership is not opposed to a possible referendum on the type of state Ukraine should be, the Russian Foreign Ministry said they are of great importance.

Among other things, the Russian Foreign Minister stated that the use of force against protesters by the Ukrainian authorities undermines the prospects for cooperation in solving the Ukrainian crisis, warning Kiev not to use force against the pro-Russian protesters.

Referring to the role of the West he said that Russia has repeatedly asked westerners to clarify their position, which they haven’t done so far.

“Those who encourage the current leadership in Kiev will be held fully accountable” he said.
