Lavrov: The downing of the Russian jet was a planned provocation

He said that Moscow will re-consider its relations with Ankara

Russia’s foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said the downing of a Russian jet by Turkey was a “planned provocation.”

Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday during the press conference that Moscow will re-consider its relations with Ankara following the shooting down of the jet on the Turkey-Syria border, but he didn’t mention any specific measures Russia would take.

Lavrov said “we have no intention to go to war with Turkey.” adding that “our attitude to the Turkish people hasn’t changed. We only have questions about the Turkish leadership.”

Mr. Lavrov revealed that his Turkish counterpart expressed his “condolences”, but he “continued to saying excuses” for the downing of the jet by Turkish F-16.

Russian foreign minister also said that advice to Russian citizens to stop visiting Turkey issued on Tuesday was based on extremist threats in Turkey.
