Main opposition party foresees elections on November 23

Party’s leader asked its members to be ready for national elections

The main opposition party (SYRIZA) has been talking about the possible election date for days now. Also, following the numerous problems that the government had to face during the last twenty days, this estimate was expressed formally by Alexis Tsipras on Tuesday night at the meeting of the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA. According to the recent political developments, the possible date for the national elections is believed to be November 23.

SYRIZA claims that the upcoming elections for the President of Hellenic Republic will trigger national elections. However, they believe that the elections might occur earlier than that, mainly because of the developments and the recent poll results which show SYRIZA clearly leading over coalition party New Democracy bringing Prime Minister Antonis Samaras in an extremely difficult position.

The main opposition party believes that elections will come either as an option and initiative of the government so as to avoid a devastating defeat or as a political accident, since the government loses its dynamic and Troika’s requirements are not likely to be approved easily by the Greek Parliament.

Therefore, Alexis Tsipras foresees national elections even during autumn, while speaking at the meeting of the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA he said that it might be possible to go for elections even before the stress tests and the final evaluations of the Troika.
