A domestic fight in Rhodes escalated into a tragedy on Thursday morning when a 31-year-old stabbed his 33-year-old wife twice before shooting himself.

Police said the couple was arguing when the husband grabbed a knife and stabbed his wife twice, in front of their children.

The man reportedly attacked the victim a second time after an ambulance was called. Following the attack , the man was barricaded in his apartment and when police arrived he shot himself with a rifle shortly after 2:30am.

The woman is being treated in a hospital at Rhodes and she is in a stable condition.
