Mansion Murders: DNA evidence on Wint’s vest

Money has been recovered, but police feel that suspect did not act alone

New DNA evidence links Daron Wint’s DNA to the mansion murder of businessman Savvas Savopoulos, his wife Amy, their 10-year-old son Philip and housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa. The court found Wint’s DNA on a construction vest in a car stolen from the property whose owners he killed.

Evidence points to Wint having held the family and the housekeeper hostage for 18 hours before killing them and setting their home on fire after receiving 40,000 dollars. Autopsies reveal that both Savopoulos and Figueroa were strangled whereas the child was also tortured before being killed.

Police report that they recovered more than 30,000 dollars from the vehicle. One of Wint’s brothers said he had been given 20,000 dollars by Wint.

Police do not think he acted alone but have yet to charge anyone else for the crime.
