At least 13 people, mostly children, have drowned after a small plastic dinghy crossing from Turkey to Europe capsized off the coast of the eastern Greek islet of Farmakonissi. The Greek coast guard says that 15 people were rescued and a search is underway to locate another missing person.

The dead were seven children, four men and two women.

The exact cause of the accident is still unknown and are being investigated.
