Mitsotakis says government has ‘rotted’

Harsh attack on PM Alexis Tsipras and his government

President of Greek major opposition party New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, unleashed a harsh attack against the Greek government accusing PM Alexis Tsipras of opportunism. Addressing his party’s political committee, Mitsotakis said the recent deal at the Eurogroup was a ‘third and fourth’ memorandum foisted onto the Greek people. He blasted Tsipras for avoiding implementing any reforms in the Greek economy.

‘We are asking and will continue to ask for elections because it is the only exit for the country’, he underlined. ‘The Greek people have had enough’, he stressed. Mitsotakis accused Tsipras of trying to set up a propaganda mechanism to form new interest groups, while he was disdaining the judicial system by violating its independence. Presenting his proposal for leading Greece out of the current crisis, Mitstotakis claimed a steady annual growth rate of 4% and exports of 10% over the next five years were feasible goals. ‘The number of people demanding elections was rising by the day’, he said, commenting on the recent polls that showed his party ahead by nearly double digits. On the matter of the review on the Greek program by its creditors and the results of the Eurogroup on May 24, Mitsotakis underlined Tsipras conceded everything and got nothing in return by the lenders.
