Moscovici: More measures with the new review

Greece will enter money markets only if prior actions are implemented, he says

In an interview to Greek newspaper ‘Imerisia’, European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs, Pierre Moscovici sent a clear message to Athens that it needs to implement all the reforms agreed on, so that the country can turn a new leaf. ‘A fourth memorandum will not be necessary, provided the changes are adopted’, said Moscovici. He goes on to say that that is the only course of action to achieve a 2.8% growth rate, while he avoided expressing his view on whether the 13th and 14th salaries in the workforce will be re-adjusted in the framework of the measures.

The Commissioner warned that the new review would also be tough, pointing out that further measures would be demanded. ‘(Greece’s) entering the markets will depend on the implementation of the agreement’, Moscovici said. On the issue of the timeframe of labour reforms he underlined that they should be completed by April 2017. Finally, he expressed the opinion that the rise of far-right populism should be death with in a decisive and unyielding manner.
