ND blasts Tsipras speech at UN as ‘cheap communication trick’

UN not the right forum to raise Greek debt

Major Greek opposition party New Democracy (ND) released a statement criticizing Greek PM Alexis Tsipras’s speech at the 70th annual UN assembly on the debt issue. In the harsh statement, ND blasted Tsipras for picking the wrong forum to bring up Greece’s debt issue accusing him of ‘pleading for a debt arrangement’. New Democracy adds that his reference to the Greek debt at the UN podium was a ‘cheap, communication trick for domestic consumption’. The statement reminds Tsipras that EU member-states do not consider the UN Assembly the right forum to bring up matters of financial and economic nature, adding that the Greek PM’s double speak is very harmful for Greece, exacerbating confusion and uncertainty while extending the lack of trust in Greece.
