ND elections: Meimarakis in the lead, Mitsotakis or Tzitzikostas eye 2nd place

Early results show a clear lead for former ND leader Vangelis Meimarakis

All votes from the conservative main opposition New Democracy elections have yet to be counted in the region of Attica and Thessaloniki, however early results place Vangelis Meimarakis ahead. At small electoral posts he appears to have gathered around 50% of the votes.
Sources from 17% of the voting centers show Meimarakis gathering 44%, Apostolos Tzitzikostas has 26% and Kyriakos Mitsotakis has 23% of the votes, whereas Adonis Georgiadis has 7% support in votes counted so far.
The Mitsotakis camp believes that he will be in 2nd position with a portion of around 30%. If this is confirmed, then there will be a 2nd round of elections on January 10 where the final leader will be decided upon.
The final results are expected to be ready in a couple of hours.
