The first ATM using face-recognition technology was presented by China. The novelty ATM aims to combat cases of theft and fraud, according to its designers.

The ATM was jointly designed and built between the Tsinghua university and Tzekwan Technology company in the eastern Zhejiang province, according to the South China Morning Post. The company specializes in protecting financial transactions.

The ATM comes equipped with a camera which photographs the user and then compares it to the ID card. The picture is also sent to local police and banks. The technology guarantees that people using other peoples’ credit cards will not continue to be able to do so. Even though this way offers security, there can be no transactions for anyone visiting the ATM for a friend or relative.

The new ATMs will also be able to record the serial numbers of cash notes deposited by clients in order to protect themselves from… funny money.
