New Democracy elections: Vote counting in progress

A firm estimate of the result is expected to be announced at around 22:00

Polling stations closed at 19:00 on Sunday in the second round of the elections for a new leader of New Democracy party.

An ND announcement said it had asked all polling stations to close and end voting, except in cases were voters were still inside the polling station.

In most parts of Greece, the process of counting the votes has already started while a firm estimate of the result is expected to be announced at around 22:00.

The voter turnout number is estimated to range between 300,000 and 320,000, although no exact number has been officially announced.

Until now vote counting process has been completed in 17 polling centers. According to preliminary data, Vangelis Meimarakis leads over Kyriakos Mitsotakis with 54%.
