ND leadership election countdown: ballot boxes close

The voting centers for the election of the new leader of the main opposition New Democracy party have now closed, while some extra time is given to centers where there are still people waiting to cast their vote.

The two candidates, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Vangelis Meimarakis, castedt their vote in the morning while they are both optimistic and believe they will win.

It is estimated that about 350,000 will vote until 7pm, roughly 20% less than the number of voters that turned out in the first round held on December, while the participation percentage will probably reach 80% -85%.

In their statements, both Mr. Meimarakis and Mr. Mitsotakis spoke of the unity of the party and that tomorrow will be a new day for New Democracy.

Sources within Mr. Mitsotakis said that there was evidence that there was a great lead of Mr. Mitsotakis over Mr. Meimarakis.
