New protest rally against social security bill

PAME, the labour union affiliated to Communist Party, calls for massive demonstrations

Massive strikes and protest rallies are organized by public and private sector protesting against the new social security and tax bill that the government has submitted to the Parliament for vote on Sunday.

PAME, the labour union affiliated to Communist Party, calls for massive demonstrations “to prevent the government from committing another crime against social security, the new tax tsunami”, as it say in its statement.

Demonstrators have already reached Parliament protesting against the new social security and tax bill that the government has submitted to the Parliament for vote.

Members of PAME were the first to gather outside the Parliament.

Many people responded to the call of General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE), Popular Unity party, journalists’ labour union, Athens Bar Association, Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation and other leftist organizations for celebrating Labour Day and they are heading towards the parliament to join their voices against new social security bill.

Another protest rally is scheduled for 6pm organized by ADEDY union at Syntagma Square.

The Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) decided to continue the strike and the ships are still docked, while gas stations will also remain closed on Sunday.
