The Court of Audit on Monday stopped a grant approved by the Attica Region authority under previous governor Giannis Sgouros to fund 7-million-euro refurbishment of the Panathinaikos FC stadium on Alexandras Avenue in Central Athens. The grant was rendered illegal after the court found that it was not in public interest and violated the principle of cost-efficiency given that the new stadium for Panathinaikos in the Votanikos region will be built within five years.
