OAED: Slight drop in Greek unemployment

OAED figures showed the number of unemployed people receiving unemployment benefit totaled 111,072 in September, of which 44,796 were men and 66,276 women

The number of registered unemployment decreased by 0.39% in September compared to August, said the Workforce Employment Organization (OAED) on Thursday.

OAED’s monthly report released data showing that the registered unemployed seeking jobs totaled 832,618 in September, from 835,844 in August, of which 448,941 (53.92%) were registered unemployed for more than 12 months and the remaining 383,677 (46.08 pct) were registered for less than 12 months.

The number of unemployed people not seeking jobs fell by 2.60% along with the number of registered unemployed people receiving unemployment benefit (down 0.64%). Women unemployed totaled 507,413 (60.94%) while men totaled 325,205 (39.06%). Registered unemployment in the 15-19 age group totaled 12,121 (1.46%), in the 20-24 age group it totalled 80,831 (9.71%), in the 25-29 group it was 121,637 (14.61%), in the 30-44 age group it was 336,256 (40.39%), in the 45-54 age group it was 177,604 (21.33%), in the 55-64 age group it was 96,699 (11.61%) and in the category that was over 65 years of age it was 7,470 (0.9%).

Greek citizens account for 94.49% of registered unemployment, EU citizens accounted for 1.28% and third country citizens accounted for 4.23%.
