Two other children were slightly injured

One child died and two others were injured after an explosion occurred at a 9th primary school in Serres in Macedonia on Monday.

The blast reportedly happened in the building’s boiler room, while the reasons remain unknown. An ambulance of EKAB arrived at the scene to pick up the two slightly injured children and transfer them to the city’s general hospital.

According to information, the explosion in the boiler room took place during the break, as a result of which pieces of wall and a metal door were blasted thirty metres away and fell on the children and injured them.

According to reports, the child who lost his life was the oldest – he was a student of the 6th grade – while the other two were students of the 1st grade and the 4th grade.

As a member of the parents’ and guardians’ association told protothema.gr , the burner was changed this year and was working for the first time: “They are students of the full-day school. The burner was outside the school, and the reasons it exploded are unclear. As far as I know, the burner was new, it was installed this year and had not been used in other years. Now no one knows what happened, the place has been blocked off, and the parents took their children.”
