Panousis: SYRIZA knew of the consequences of hosting a referendum

Alt. Citizens Protection Minister Y. Panousis sees elections in September or October

Alternate Citizen Protection Minister Yiannis Panousis spoke of a “three-party government” when commenting on the rift withing the ruling Radical Left Coalition government. He added that, in light of developments, he “sees” elections in September or October in an interview with private MEGA TV on Friday. Asked about the referendum where people rejected international creditors’ bailout terms on July 5, he said that the government had examined the consequences and was aware that there was a risk that capital controls would be imposed as a result.

The minister says that elections are a certainty.”For six months a very large part of the government was negotiating while it was not required to do so; they needed to work, to govern. Now if we are ‘up in the air’ for three months, we will have to go to the polls in September,” he said.

Asked about the migrant issue, Panousis said taht this is not a Greek problem and one that the government cannot handle any longer.
