Passenger traffic at Athens Int’l Airport up by 28% in Jan.

This development shows that Athens is an attractive destination, even during the winter period.

Passenger traffic at the Athens’ International Airport (AIA) increased by an astonishing 27.95% in January compared to the same month in 2014, reaching approximately 975,000 passengers.

According to the official data released by AIA, the number of domestic travelers rose 43.9% to 375,994 in the first month of the year, compared to 261,361 in January 2014.

International passengers numbers are also on the rise, as they increased by 19.6% to 599,461 versus 501,075 in the same period last year.

The number of foreign travelers arriving to Athens rose by 32%, a development which “shows that Athens is an attractive destination, even during the winter period.”

January 2015 also witnessed general elections in the country.
