Petition to save Greek houses from vulture funds has over 52,000 signatures

Proposal gives Greeks chance to buy up their debt at cost sold to foreign funds

An online petition calling on the Greek government to allow Greeks to pay off their outstanding home loans at the value they are being sold off to international funds has gained popular support with over 52,000 people signing the it. The ‘Save Greeks’ houses from foreign vulture Funds’ campaign, which is hosted on Avaz platform, was launched by Greek lawyer Ariadne Nouka as a response to the recent provision included in the omnibus bill voted by the Greek parliament, where even non-performing house loans of a first residency worth under 140,000 Euros could be sold off to vulture funds. The statement-petition is addressed to the Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos and Economy Minister George Stathakis and reminds the Greek government of a similar opportunity given to the Cypriots house owners.
