The First Cemetery of Athens is one of the secret places that most tourists miss out on during a visit to Athens. The cemetery, however, has many historical monuments such as the tomb of the Pesmazoglou family or that of Heinrich Schliemann. Apart from the notable guests buried here there are monuments of artistic worth such as the famous grave of Sofia Afentaki known as “The Sleeping Beauty” that was created by sculptor Yannoulis Chalepas.
