Greece as a wedding tourism destination

The first thematic forum for wedding tourism will take place on 29 April at the Aegli Zappeion

Newsroom March 18 07:23

The wedding tourism sector and the international market for destination weddings are emerging as some of the most dynamic areas of modern tourism.

Greece will host its first thematic forum dedicated to exploring the growth prospects of this thriving sector.

The Destination Weddings Tourism Forum – Greece 2026 will take place on 29 April 2026 at Aigli Zappeion in Athens, organized by the Greek Destination Planners Association (GDPA), the official professional body for destination wedding planners in Greece.

This initiative aims to serve as a central meeting point for the industry, offering a vibrant platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences. Tourism professionals, institutional representatives, destination managers, and international experts will come together to discuss the sector’s potential and opportunities.

“The destination weddings industry represents a significant opportunity to strengthen Greece’s international presence in high-value tourism. The Forum aims to foster meaningful dialogue between operators, businesses, and destinations to explore development prospects and further establish our country as a premier luxury wedding destination,” says GDPA President Thomas Politis.

Globally, destination weddings rank among the fastest-growing and highest value-added segments of modern tourism. Beyond a single-day ceremony, they now offer a complete travel experience, combining multi-day stays, hospitality, and authentic moments for guests. This trend not only enhances the local economy but also elevates the international profile of host destinations.

Through presentations on international trends, market data, and discussions with leading tourism professionals, the forum will showcase strategies to further develop the sector and diversify Greece’s tourism offerings.
