According to the popular website trusted by millions of French tourists, “the church of Agios Ioannis in Kastri stands emblematic on a rocky islet offering a breathtaking panorama that ‘hugs’ the Aegean Sea.
The scene was captured in the film adaptation of the musical Mamma Mia, transforming the impressive rock from an observation post for pirate attacks centuries ago to an international attraction for couples, nature lovers and walkers.”
It is noted that the effort of the Municipality of Skopelos to promote the project to emerging markets, such as the French, which in recent years has shown a strong preference for the Sporades.
“Mamma Mia in Skopelos is not a film, it is an experience. Those who visit Skopelos fall in love with the nature, the hospitality, the homemade flavours, the picturesque alleys and the activities and eventually they come back again and again because they become our friends.
This is the essence of the holidays we want to spend”, explains the President of the Municipality of Skopelos Tourism Committee, Eva Karamesini.
At the same time, with the aim of reviving the romantic atmosphere of Mamma Mia, the Municipality of Skopelos chose this year to appeal to the travelling public through an original music video starring the “flying” pianist Elena Xydia.
Elena Xydia put her piano on top of a 100 meter cliff in Skopelos!
The artist’s piano was placed next to the chapel of Agios Ioannis at the top of a 100 meter high rock in the framework of several hours of filming that took place with the support of numerous volunteers.
Against the backdrop of the turquoise waters of Skopelos, Mrs. Xydia “revived” Mamma Mia by playing timeless ABBA songs on the piano.
