Metsovo flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries, developing trading relations with all of Europe. The great national benefactor Evangelos Averoff who had roots from there helped enormously the place to transition smoothly to the modern needs and conditions as the income from trade begun to fade. Now the visitor can enjoy the local products and the beauty and calmness of this hospitable place.
