The “ClimaBiz – Financial Institutions: Preparing the Market for adapting to Climate Change” program implemented by the Piraeus Bank was awarded as one of the Best 21 LIFE Environment Projects 2013 by the European Commission.
This innovative program, which was successfully completed, was funded by the financial institution “LIFE + Environment Policy and Governance” of the European Union by 50%. The climabiz aimed to prepare the Greek market, in order to adapt promptly to new climatic and environmental conditions but also to effectively utilize the opportunities arising from them.
Mr. Vrasidas Zavras, General Manager of Piraeus Bank and Head of Green Banking, received the award on behalf of Piraeus at a ceremony held yesterday in Brussels under the framework of Green Week with theme “Circular Economy, Resource Efficiency & Waste”.
Receiving the award Mr. Zavras said among other things: “The main choice of Piraeus Bank is to support companies, institutions, organizations and projects that provide added value benefiting people and environment, with the support of depositors and investors who wish to promote individual and corporate social responsibility in a sustainable society,”.
During the presentation, special focus was given on the importance of the role of the Bank as a financial institution in tackling climate change, both in relation to the recognition of the economic climate risks and the exploitation of investment opportunities.
