PM Mitsotakis announces the minimum wage will increase to 780 euros from April 1

The PM said it was the best his government could do under the current circumstances

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the increase of the minimum wage from April 1st to 780 euros.

As he explained, this is an increase of 9.4%, the third consecutive increase during his administration’s tenure.

He recalled that in 2019 the minimum wage was at 650 euros “which means that since then three additional wages have been added for 600,000 workers”.

“I have no illusions, I know that in our country the wages are still low and they are pressed more by imported inflation. I hear it all the time, especially from young men and women who are having a hard time” added the Prime Minister

“This new increase obviously does not solve the problem but it is a significant relief and above all, it indicates our intention to upgrade salaries in both the public and private sectors” Kyriakos Mitsotakis continued in his introduction.

“I want to emphasise that the final amount that has been agreed is at the upper limit of our possibilities, it is, however, within the capabilities of the businesses that I want to remind you that were supported by the government during the pandemic ” the Prime Minister clarified in the meeting he had with the Minister of Labor, Kostis Hatzidakis.
