PM Samaras says he is optimistic about the outcome of the national elections

He is currently visiting Kastanies village in Evros

Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, who is currently visiting Kastanies village in Evros, as part of the election campaign of his party, New Democracy, said on Monday that he is optimistic about the outcome of the national elections.

More specifically, when asked by the press if he believes that his party will win the elections on January 25, the Prime Minister replied “I am optimistic, of course.”

The Greek premier visited the military outpost in the border with Turkey, where he was welcomed by Major General Antonios Vitetzakis and Brigadier Ioannis Makris.

Mr. Samaras also visited the fence constructed along the Evros river to prevent undocumented migrants from entering the country. He was accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister Akis Gerontopoulos, Deputy Education Minister Alexandros Dermentzopoulos and Eastern Macedonian and Thrace Prefect Giorgos Pavlidis.

“This fence has played a very positive role and, as I have already mentioned, it must stay in place. This fence has benefited the region and the Greek people will never allow its demolition, as some would wish, so that undocumented migrants can enter Greece and get medical and insurance coverage,” Mr. Samaras underlined.
