Political parties lash out at gov’t on offshore companies amendment

Mitsotakis: The government must tell the truth about the amendment – Theodorakis: Politicians cannot own offshore companies

All opposition parties have expressed their frustration over the new amendment made by SYRIZA-ANEL government regarding the article 178 of the omnibus bill passed in Greek parliament a few days ago.

The leader of main opposition New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, asked the government to stop playing games and tell the truth about the amendment, according to which, MPs and ministers are allowed to own offshore companies located in tax cooperating countries.

Speaking at ANT1 TV channel he lashed out at the government and the prime minister saying “To whom does this amendment for off-shore companies apply? The government must answer on that”

Politicians cannot own offshore companies or have their money abroad, Potami leader Stavros Theodorakis said in statements to private Mega TV on Monday adding that those who do so they should be forced to transfer their money back.

Mr. Theodorakis reiterated that the new taxes will not bring revenues and proposed a different reading of the memorandum that will be based on cutting expenses and imposing new taxes.
