Porosenko: I will ask Putin to withdraw separatists

Porosenko stressed that the Ukrainian side will “invite all fighters to withdraw from Ukraine,” and added that “I’m sure we will make it happen”

The Ukrainian President Peter Porosenko will ask from the Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, to take action in order for the separatists in Moscow to withdraw from the eastern part of the country.
Porosenko is scheduled to see Putin in the capital of Belarus, Minsk on the 26th of August in a meeting which will also involve top leaders of the EU and the Customs Union which has made Russia.

Although the notice posted on its website did not mention Putin by name, Porosenko stressed that the Ukrainian side will “invite all fighters (the rebels) to withdraw from Ukraine” ,and added that “I’m sure they will we make it happen ‘.

The government under Porosenko, which is favorably disposed towards the West accuses Russia that has orchestrated the riots separatists in eastern Ukraine, where more than 2,000 people have lost their lives, and for arming the rebels. Moscow denies these accusations.

Noting that the talks will come with the intention to seek a peaceful way of ending the armed conflict Porosenko said: “In order to have solid positions in peace negotiations is necessary to be strong, we have to ensure the unity of the people, a strong country, a powerful army. We are able to defend our national sovereignty, our independence and our territorial integrity. Today we are fighting for the independence of Ukraine. Together we will win without a doubt. ”

The meeting next Tuesday will be the first among Porosenko and Putin after a rather cold contact that they had in June in Normandy France, on the sidelines of the event for the Allied landing there during the Second World War.

The prospect of meeting has raised hopes that it could achieve a breakthrough and to end the months-long conflict between Kiev and Moscow for the future of Ukraine. The new Ukrainian leadership sets the path to Europe, causing concern in Moscow. The Ukrainian crisis has also caused the rapid deterioration in relations between Russia and the West, which has reached levels that refer to the Cold War.
