President of Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias arrived yesterday in Caen, Normandy to take part in the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the WWII Allied invasion of Normandy in June 1944 (D-Day).
Mr Papoulias and his wife on Friday at 12.30 will attend a reception at the Benouville castle.
Benouville is a small coastal city in the region of Calvados where in June 1944 the British 6th Airborne Division successfully completed the operation Pegasus Bridge.
Barack Obama, Vladimir Putin and Queen Elizabeth are among the 17 country leaders who are invited. After the reception the 17 invited country leaders will participate in a ‘family photo’ with French President Francois Hollande.
Also, an official dinner will follow.
At 15.30 the invited leaders will visit the Ouisterham beach (Sword Beach) where the official commemoration ceremony will take place.
