President Pavlopoulos: An immediate response is needed to tackle climate change

“World Environment Day must be the starting point for thought, of understanding our responsibilities and taking the imperative, brave decisions,” he said

The “danger signals” from global warming and climate change and the almost irreparable repercussions of this change are becoming stronger day by day, President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos said on Sunday in a message for World Environment Day.

“An immediate response, through honest and coordinated global cooperation, is our minimal obligation, especially for the generations to come,” Mr. Pavlopoulos stressed.

As he said, any negligence activates, among others, two disastrous results: First, it endangered the living conditions and by extension the survival of humanity on the planet and secondly, it inevitably leads to the increase of the already huge inequality between states and people, bringing the degradation of people and resulting, among others, in uncontrolled and extremely dangerous migration flows. This last phenomenon is already more than visible,”

In the light of these facts, the “World Environment Day cannot have the character of an anniversary” Mr. Pavlopoulos said adding that “It must be the starting point for thought, of understanding our responsibilities and taking the imperative, brave decisions.”
