Public Transport tickets to drop to 1.20 euros

The new public transport tickets in September will be valid for 70 minutes and be sold on magnetic cardboard strips.

The Greek Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks is expected to announce a reduction in public transport fares today.

The ministry and the Athens Urban Transport Organisation (OASA) are changing the pricing policy for public transport by bringing back the joint ticket for urban transport that had been abolished in 2011. These changes are to be enforced in September when the price of a standard ticket will drop 14.2 percent to 1.20 euros from the 1.40-euro current price.

The new standard ticket will allow commuters to travel on the entire public transport network for 70 minutes after being validated as opposed to the current 90-minute time frame.

Furthermore, the points of sale for urban transport tickets are expected to increase and official sources also have announced that magnetic cardboard strips will replace the single tickets currently being sold.
