Russian President Vladimir Putin received Greek PM Alexis Tsipras at the Kremlin shortly after 11pm GMT.
The event marked the first time after almost 10 years that a visit by a Greek leader to Moscow is considered important for relations between the two countries, with either side pointing to a re-establishment and strengthening of bilateral relations on several sectors.
Tsipras apparently wants to develop a multifaceted foreign policy with strong relations abroad, while Putin wants to show that he has the power and influence to attract European leaders and forces.
The agenda of the two possibly includes energy, and farm exports, privatizations and even the Greek debt.
