Reactions aplenty for new Ms Japan

Ariana Miyamoto is Japanese, however many people choose to think that her different skin does not make her Japanese “enough”…

Ariana Miyamoto is the new Ms. Japan and her coronation managed to stir many a negative comment and uproar.

Social media is abuzz since user comments state that she didn’t deserve the title for not being a “pure-blooded” Japanese woman.

Her mother is an African-American and her father is Japanese.

Miyamoto was born and grew up in Japan. She studied in the USA and has a masters in Japanese calligraphy.

Her caramel complexion was the anti-thesis to the milky-white skin of her opponents, which generated several thinly veiled racist remarks.
