Reuters: Samaras prepared the European ground before announcing the voting

According to the news agency prior to the decision for early elections for the President of the Republic the Greek Prime Minster had informed the German Minister of Finance, the President of the Commission as well as European leaders, unlike George Papandreou in 2011

The Greek Prime Minister decided to take the risk and accelerate the presidential election process. But, unlike his predecessor in the recent past, he made sure before “dropping the bomb” that Berlin and Brussels would not be an obstacle.

According to a source from Eurozone “Samaras and Shauble spoke over the phone just a few days prior to the announcement” reports Reuters. “The two men discussed the details of the rescue plan for Greece, that Samaras wants to exit one year before the original schedule”.

The anonymous source, according to Reuters supports that “Shauble did not pressure the Greek Prime Minister for such a decision, but now that it has taken its course, Schauble doesn’t think that it was such a bad idea”.

Further, Reuters states that “the support of Brussels and Berlin even if is just for tactic reasons, still remains an important guarantee”.

Finally, among other the article refers to further contacts between Mr. Antonis Samaras and  various European leaders, including the President of the Commission Jan Claude Juncker.
