The former King will be buried in Tatoi

Royal Guests from around the world are expected to attend the Funeral of King Constantine II of Greece at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Athens on January 16th, followed by the Burial in the Royal Cemetery at Tatoi Palace. The body Lays in State at the Agios Eleftherios Chapel in Athens from 6 am to 10 am ahead of the Funeral.

The sons of the former King Constantine, Nikolaos, and Philippos visited the Metropolis of Athens on Sunday, in order to arrange the last details for the funeral tomorrow.

The funeral will be held tomorrow, while the burial will take place in Tatoi, next to the ancestors of the former king. Today the arrival of most of the guests, members of royal families from 11 countries, is expected in Athens.

The family of the former King Constantine is staying at the hotel “Grande Bretagne”, a few hours before his funeral.

Spain’s royal family is expected to attend the funeral in full, with most members already in Greece. Royal members are also expected from Denmark, Sweden, Luxembourg, Norway, Monaco, Serbia, and Bulgaria, while a total of 14 private flights are expected at Athens International Airport today.

In particular, Queen Margarita herself comes from Denmark and is the sister of Anna Maria, the widow of Constantine. She will be accompanied by Prince Frederik of Denmark and as he is said to be Constantine’s favourite nephew. Princess Benedict and Princess Alexandra of Denmark will also be present at the funeral of the former king.

The heir to the throne of Norway, Haakon Magnus, who has been baptized by Queen Margarita, Anna Maria’s sister, will also come to Greece, as well as King Charles Gustavus of Sweden and Princess Christina of Sweden.

The “present” will be given by Prince Radu of Romania, Princess Catherine of Serbia, former King Simeon of Bulgaria, and Princess Sarvath al-Hassan of Jordan.

The security measures are draconian in the centre of Athens from noon on Sunday, particularly in the areas around the Syntagma and the Metropolis, due to the presence of the representatives of the royal families who flock to the funeral of the former King Constantine.

Where will they stay

All of the above will stay at the Grande Bretagne hotel. Alexia, Theodora, and his sons Pavlos, Nikolaos, and Philippos will be staying at the same hotel as the deceased’s family.

The family of former King Constantine is also awaiting confirmation from Queen Noor of Jordan and King Philip of Belgium who intends to stay in Athens overnight.

Prince Albert of Monaco will also travel to Athens for the funeral of the last king of the Greeks. From Luxembourg, Grand Duke Henry is expected to attend.

The arrival of the heir to the British throne and the god child of the former king remain unconfirmed. However, the arrival of Princess Anne, daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth of England, is considered almost certain.

All the crowned and blue-blooded relatives and close friends of the former king, on Monday morning, will all gather together at the Grande Bretagne Hotel, from where they will head to the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens.

According to reports, Prince Albert of Monaco will stay at the Athens Plaza Hotel in the centre of Athens, while the Luxembourg delegation found the prices…expensive and decided to go to the Electra Palace instead, unless he ultimately chooses the opulence of the Divani Caravel.
