Seashore bill: The new conflict between government and main opposition party SYRIZA

A representative of the Democratic Left (DIMAR) party will attend the event, thus signalling the dialogue process between the two parties

A few days after the  first Summer Recess section rejected the proposal of SYRIZA and other opposition parties for a plenary session in order to discuss the possibility to hold a referendum on the small PPC issue, SYRIZA attempts to put more pressure on the government through the seashore bill.

The bill is expected to be submitted in the upcoming months in the Parliament and concerns new construction terms to the seashores, which has already caused a series of reactions from local people in many parts of Greece.

Alexis Tsipras will talk at today’s event about the seashore bill.

Commenting on the bill to be submitted in the Parliament, the press office of SYRIZA stated that the government’s plans “prevent people from accessing the beaches, exacerbating social inequalities and injustices. At the same time, severe ecological damage might be caused by tourism activities which are promoted through “urgent” undemocratic procedures”.
