Shocking video! Athens police officer flung 10-metres high after head-on crash with car (warning: distressing footage)

The officer suffered serious injuries

A shocking video shows the moment a police officer on a moped goes airborne after a head-on collision with a vehicle in Athens. The terrifying traffic accident was aired on Alpha TV and shows the officer flying 10 metres in the air before landing on the road on his back.

The video was shared on social media by a police officer who signs as “Konstantinos”, in an effort to appeal to both his colleagues and the public to wear a helmet. The police officer, who was seriously injured, retrieved the footage from a store’s closed-circuit camera and posted it to raise awareness.

As can be seen in the video, a car driver was driving in the opposite lane while he was moving with his motorcycle. This resulted in the two crashing with great severity and the police officer being thrown off his motorcycle. As he says, he was saved by the helmet and needed minor operations.

The Traffic Police revealed that 7 out of 10 drivers do not comply with safe driving measures and as it appears from the Traffic Police data, in checks made only last week, 1,447 motorists who did not wear a helmet were fined.
