Silvia Costa, President of the Committee on Culture and Education of the European Parliament, reiterated recently the European Union’s commitment to support both financially and morally the efforts of the Greek state to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of the Achelous Valley.
The Achelous, also known as Acheloos, is a river in western Greece. In antiquity, it formed the boundary between Acarnania and Aetolia and its spirit was venerated as the river god Achelous.
“The Achelous valley is one of the poorest but very beautiful districts in Europe. The cultural inheritance, the natural and cultural wealth of the Achelous Valley and the surrounding area is passing from generation to generation,” Ms. Costa notes in the following video, which features some of the area’s most beautiful spots.
