Spiegel reports that Juncker says EU members unwilling to receive refugees will provide economic aid

He is expected to present his plan on September 9

According to German magazine Spiegel online, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said that EU member-states unwilling to share the distribution of immigrants entering the continent would have to offer financial assistance for the refugee crisis. The magazine reports that the Luxembourgian politician plans to recommend an economic aid system for EU countries that do not want to accept their share of refugees. Spiegel reports that a requirement for opting to participate through financial aid will depend on whether the said country will present ‘temporary systemic reasons’ that prevent it from receiving refugees. According to Spiegel, these countries will be allowed to offers economic assistance once in a 12-month period. Juncker is expected to table his proposals next Wednesday, September 9 before the European Parliament. Some former eastern bloc countries are raising objections to the distribution system.
