Stamati released without bail due to capital controls

She was released without paying the 50,000 euro bail

Viki Stamati, the wife of convicted former defense minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos, was expected to be released from psychiatric hospital Dromokaitio after serving three years on charges of money laundering.

The Court of Appeal, though, set a 50,000 euro bail in order to be set free. Mrs. Stamati’s lawyer, Frangiskos Ragousis, said yesterday that his client did not have themoney and would need two months to collect it.

However, authorities released Mrs. Stamati without paying the bail based on a temporary bail suspension resulting from the imposition of capital controls.
