Storms and heavy rains forecast for Greece

The phenomena will last until the weekend

The National Meteorological Service issued an extreme weather warning forecasting a sudden change of weather at noon on Monday.

The forecast reports heavy rains and storms, which will be accompanied by a high frequency of lightning, hail, and
temporarily, during the phenomena, strengthened gusty winds, starting from tomorrow Tuesday until Friday.

The phenomena will also affect the islands, apart from the mainland, especially the Aegean. Thessaly, the Sporades, northern Evia, the northern Aegean, and Halkidiki will suffer the heaviest amounts of rain, mainly on Wednesday and Thursday.

Tomorrow Tuesday (23-08-2022) intermittent heavy rains and storms are predicted in central and eastern Macedonia,
Thrace, Thessaly, eastern Sterea, the Sporades, Evia, the islands of the northern Aegean, and mid-afternoon in the
rest of the mainland and Crete.

On Wednesday (24-08-2022) the strong effects will continue and will affect the eastern mainland and island
country (except the Dodecanese) from early in the morning and the rest of the mainland in the afternoon-afternoon.

On Thursday (25-08-2022) heavy rains and storms are predicted in central and eastern Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaly,
eastern Sterea, the Sporades, Evia, the islands of the northeastern Aegean, and mid-afternoon in the rest of the mainland and Crete.

Rains and storms in Attica for five days 

Athens will experience autumn conditions today and throughout the week gradually across the country, a rare phenomenon in August.

The atmospheric disturbance located northwest of our country over the wider Adriatic region is expected to cause widespread atmospheric instability with rains and storms in a large part of the central and northern mainland of the country for the second day. The main features of the weather during Monday 22/08 will be rains and storms mainly in Epirus, Thessaly, Macedonia, Upper Sterea (including Attica), Upper Peloponnese, and locally in Thrace.
