SYRIZA leader pledges to support repatriated Greeks

SYRIZA leader A. Tsipras promised to abolish pension cuts enforced by the ND-PASOK coalition government

Main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras made a pledge on Monday to aid repatriated Greeks. He said that pension cuts enforced by the coalition government of conservative New Democracy Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and socialist PASOK Deputy Prime Minister Evangelos Venizelos would be reinstated and the major injustice done to tens of thousands of citizens will be fixed should his party be successful in the elections on January 25.

Mr. Tsipras made this pledge during a meeting with representatives of unions of repatriated Greeks, noting that this commitment was included in his party’s program against the humanitarian crisis that had been announced during the Thessaloniki International Trade Fair.

He reiterated that the Thessaloniki program is non-negotiable and the cost takes under consideration the country’s current potential, noting that is based on a radical change of political and social priorities in the context of balanced budgets.
