SYRIZA looks for alliances to pave the way for early elections

Most members of SYRIZA believe that early elections will occur no later than the beginning of 2015, on the occasion of the presidential election

SYRIZA’s spokesman Panos Skoureltis and MEP and vice president of the European parliament Dimitris Papadimoulis strongly agree that elections will be conducted by 2015.

On the other hand, though, Yannis Dragasakis, is not sure, although he hopes for it, that an informal front of 121 members will be formed and will refuse to vote for President of Hellenic Republic and therefore push for early elections. It is estimated that the success achieved on the small PPC issue by gathering more members than needed will not be repeated.

The president of Democratic Left party (DIMAR) seems to confirm this view since he has shifted away from his original position on the issue and leaves open the possibility of consenting in the election of the President from the Parliament. Moreover, DIMAR is engaged in a peculiar public dialogue with both PASOK for the reconstruction of the center-left and SYRIZA for finding an alternative exit, which confuses SYRIZA for its real intentions.

In any case, SYRIZA attempts to highlight new fronts through which new political forces will be formed that will challenge strongly the government policies and pave the way for early elections, even in the spring of 2015.
