The amazing hotel due to host George Clooney’s Venice wedding (see photos)

The Renaissance style palazzo was the first building in Venice to have electricity, an elevator and a phone.

In only a few hours, one of the most eligible bachelors in Hollywood, 53-year-old George Clooney will tie the knot with gorgeous 36-year-old lawyer Amal Alamuddin. The wedding ceremony will take place at Venice’s only seven star hotel, Amal Canal Grande, a beautiful canal-front palazzo built in 1550, that was previously called Palazzo Papadopoli, as it originally belonged to a Greek family.

The Renaissance style palazzo was the first building in Venice to have electricity, an elevator and a phone. Palazzo Papadopoli belonged to a Greek family who emigrated to Venice from Corfu in the late 19th century. There, the owner Nikolas Papadopoulos fell in love with the daughter of an aristocratic family of Venice and married her.

The famous Hollywood star and Amal have hired out a second glamorous hotel, the five-star 79-room Hotel Cipriani, to serve as one of the wedding venues. This was the favorite hotel of Princess Diana and many celebrities have chosen to stay there over the years, including Uma Thurman, Jude Law and Al Pacino.
