Ebola virus victims climb to 66 in Liberia

So far 104 suspected and 48 confirmed cases of Ebola

Sixty-six people have lost their lives in Liberia from Ebola hemorrhagic fever that is spreading in West Africa, as announced by the Ministry of Health of the country. Out of the 66 deaths the 35 occurred in northern Lofa region, where the first recorded outbreak of Ebola appeared in the 29th of May, announced the Deputy Minister of Health of Liberia Tolbert Niensgouith. In the province of Margkimpi two deaths have been reported, while 29 people died in the province of Montseranto, which is where the capital Monrovia is.

So far they have recorded in Liberia 104 suspected cases of Ebola and 48 confirmed cases added Niensgouith. “They have created four units, isolation and limited to quarantine patients with Ebola,” he noted.

Moreover, ambulances have been patrolling the neighborhoods to identify people who have suspicious symptoms and nursing staff in 500 clinics across the country will be trained in controlling the epidemic “of tomorrow,” said the Niensgouith.

Meanwhile the Ghana Health ministers and officials from 11 African countries will meet in order to seek ways to address the epidemic of Ebola, from which nearly 470 people across the region have died.

By the end of June nearly 760 cases of Ebola were confirmed in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, according to the World Health Organization.
