The only place where European elections matter, is Greece

A statement by Barclays

Barclays seems to be paying very little attention to the upcoming European elections this week, as it notes, their effect is not going to particularly affect internal European countries’ politics.

Polls show that traditional parties will lose 50-10 seats, with the shift in forces favouring the left and possibly Eurosceptics. Nevertheless, the political equilibrium will be maintained, noted the agency.

Unlike what happens in other countries, Barclays states that the outcome of the European elections will hold an even stronger message in Greece, affecting the domestic political scene.

This, because SYRIZA aims to turn elections into a referendum of the policies of the government and the Troika, according to the agency, at the same time that Alexis Tsipras is claiming the position of European Commission President.
