The remains of eight more missing Greek fallen soldiers in Cyprus have returned to Greece (photos)

At the Elefsina HAF Air Base, the C-130 carrying the remains of eight Greek soldiers fallen during the 1974 Turkish invasion to Cyprus landed in the presence of the Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, on Friday morning.

Yesterday, the remains of another seven soldiers were buried at the Tymbos Macedonitissas.

As stated at yesterday’s ceremony in Cyprus by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, the 15 fallen soldiers’ names are:

– Kratimenos Anastasios
– Analytis Georgios
– Tsitiridis Konstantinos
– Iliopoulos Panagiotis
– Toulis Elias
– Martzaklis Georgios
– Tsangalidis Konstantinos
– Iliopoulos Ioannis
– Christopoulos Alexios
– Xanthopoulos Athanasios
– Koukoularis Christos
– Binakis Georgios
– Bourekas Asimakis
– Chios Fragkos
– Charalambos Charlian

As Mr. Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus, stated, these are Greek soldiers who, during the Turkish invasion of 1974 and the Turkish incursions of 1963-64, “came from Greece to reinforce the defense of our island, to ensure the sovereignty and independence of our homeland, to counter Attila’s hordes, to unite with their brothers in Cyprus, as in any other common national imperative in history.”
